As a child, I fell in love with reading when the Book Mobile (Library on Wheels) would come to our small town and my mom would take me to check out books! Oh, how they transported me to faraway places with amazing adventures. Currently, I’ve just finished an audio book where the author/narrator has a dynamic British accent.     

  By the end of the book (autobiography), I felt that the author and I were the best of friends!

As an adult, when I began another quest to dive deeper into the Word, I was not terribly excited. I knew most of the Bible stories and the gist of all that happened in the Bible, so why did I need more? The Lord, so gently whispered into my spirit, “I want you to know Me on a deeper level. I want you to have a relationship with Me.” Wow! Really? Thus, began my motivation to know Him better and remain committed to the discipline of Daily Bible Reading. I’d always been a good Bible snacker (read a little here, read a little there) but the Lord requested more.

Colossians 3:16 states, “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” Dwell defined is, “Live in or at a specific place.” I definitely wanted the Lord to dwell in me. I hungered for that relationship.

First, it all began with a plan…my Chronological Bible and a specific location. Second, I must make it a priority everyday, no matter what. Next, I must make every effort to protect the time I had in His Word. (no external stimuli). Then, I needed to pursue Him in the scriptures, visualize myself being right there with him and listening. Lastly, I needed to remain committed to my quest and persevere. I didn’t want quitting to be an option, as it had been in the past.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.” Our work is a good work!

So, here is what I want you to do, God helping you, take your everyday, ordinary life, your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, walking around life and place it before God as an offering. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out in you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Message Bible, Romans 12:1-2.
