I remember helping in children’s church and helping my sons memorize the Apostles’ Creed. We worked on it diligently until we mastered it. My greatest accomplishment during my childhood church years (aside from accepting the Lord) was memorizing the 10 Commandments and receiving my 10 Commandments charm bracelet. I think that’s when my admiration of jewelry began. Most recently, I’ve listened to my granddaughters recite the Apostles’ Creed at bedtime. Do you remember the Apostles’ Creed? It is also referenced as the “Christian Creed”

or a “Symbol of Faith”. Such a powerful declaration.

Apostles’ Creed: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord who was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, who suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried, descended to the dead, rose again from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty, who will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, and the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Martin Luther wrote the hymn “Wir glauben all an einen Gott” (translated into English as “We All Believe in One God”) in 1524 as a paraphrase of the Apostles’ Creed. In 2014, Hillsong released a version of the Apostles’ Creed titled “This I Believe (The Creed)” on their album No Other Name. Relevant from the 4th century to today!

The word “believe” shows up in the Bible 249 times and mostly in the New Testament. My favorite one is “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.” (Acts 16:31). It all starts from there. I’m pretty sure that’s the verse that introduced me to Jesus, inspired me to learn the Ten Commandments, and continues to solidify my walk/ministry using the Apostles’ Creed.

As we reflect upon God’s Word and the above insights, give us wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Let any knowledge we have gained help us love You and others more. Help us to see something new about YOU that we’ve never seen before. Correct any lies we believe about You and anything we may misunderstand. And always direct our steps according to Your Word.
